Sam Van Wetter
Writer, organizer, guide
I am a writer based on the Colorado Plateau. In a decade of living in southern Utah, I’ve worked as a farmer, prep cook, first responder, organizer, political strategist, campaign manager, bike guide, and seamster.
I have sought experiences which bring focus and urgency to larger issues. From managing campaigns in rural counties to months-long backcountry trips, intimate understanding of place builds connection. I believe that in deepening my knowledge of a place, I will also learn a greater breadth with which to approach it.
Our response to pressing problems – whether they affect a town of 300 or a watershed of 40 million – must come from a place of understanding, respect, and possibility. The stories we share become the setting for solutions. Optimism is an effective tool when used correctly. I strive to make joy and hope with each story and campaign I create.

I am an adept communicator, an adroit problem-solver, and I make a mean dutch oven enchilada.
I am based in Moab, Utah and travel frequently across the West. I make compelling communication campaigns for local and statewide candidates, as well as multifaceted media campaigns for public lands protection.
